In an endeavor to equip and empower its Territorial Treasurers with essential financial literacy skills, the Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) joined hands with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) to conduct a comprehensive 2-day Treasurers’ training program. The training, which took place at the Zimbabwe Women’s Bureau in Harare from the 27th to the 28th of June 2022, aims to standardize financial processes and procedures across all ZCIEA Territories.
With 46 ZCIEA Territorial Treasurers in attendance, the training session was led by ZCIEA Finance Officer Carl Magwaza and IIED Finance|Contracts & Compliance Officer Brian Barban. The highlight of the program was the presentation of the newly developed ZCIEA Treasurer’s Manual to the ZCIEA National President Lorraine Sibanda by IIED’s Brian Barban.
The ZCIEA Treasurer’s Manual serves as a comprehensive guide that clarifies the roles and responsibilities of Territorial Treasurers while establishing standardized processes and procedures for uniform application across all ZCIEA territories. As ZCIEA continues to expand its reach with 46 territories currently under its umbrella, the standardization of the treasurer’s role becomes crucial to ensure effective, reliable, and consistent financial management practices.
By fostering collaboration with IIED and investing in the capacity-building of its Territorial Treasurers, ZCIEA is taking proactive steps to enhance financial literacy within its organizational structure, ultimately driving greater transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency across its diverse territories.
The partnership between ZCIEA and IIED exemplifies a shared commitment to promoting best practices in financial management and governance, setting a solid foundation for sustainable growth and development within the informal economy sector.
