Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) National Organiser Benita Goneso, along with ZCIEA Nyanyadzi Territorial President Sophia Mapinge, organised 35 informal workers and traders in Bocha Marange on the 20th of January 2022. This area is known for its mineral resources, making it a highly protected zone.

During the meeting, the informal workers and traders highlighted key issues they face, including workplace violence and harassment, as well as frequent encounters with uniformed forces leading to arrests for operating in undesignated areas.

Following the gathering, 35 individuals were officially inducted as ZCIEA members, including the village head. This development marks a significant milestone as ZCIEA aims to support these members in fostering positive relationships with local authorities, particularly through engagement with the Rural District Council.

Furthermore, ZCIEA identified critical areas for improvement, focusing on addressing gaps related to youth, women, people with disabilities, climate change, and the promotion of digital solutions as part of efforts to combat climate change.

ZCIEA remains committed to its mission, ‘Alleviating poverty through transforming informal economy activities into mainstream activities.
